Reducing handpiece downtime

Lube Free does not mean maintenance free.
Do you have any of the Star 430 or Solara Lube Free handpieces in your office?
While they save time and maintenance and keep residual lubricant out of the oral cavity, do you ever wonder why the chucking mechanism that holds the bur in seems to fail?
There is a very simple explanation and an easy solution that I'll share with you here.
You see, in a lubricated handpiece, some of the lubricant is expelled through the chuck during maintenance and serves to flush-out and lubricate the chuck to keep it functioning well. However, in the Star Lube Free, they use a sealed, pre-greased ceramic bearing that doesn't require lubrication. But what about the chuck you ask? Good question, because any residues or material that gets sucked up in the vortex will just get baked in there and over time with repeated sterilizations can create a varnish that will impede the funtionality of the chuck, causing it to fail.
So how do we help out poor Chuck?
Well, Star has the solution, literally, its called Junk-Out Chuck Cleaner, and it's a solution that you use with an interproximal brush to clean out the chuck on a weekly basis, removing debris and buildup and greatly enhancing the life and functionality of the chuck. My thoughts are that every office should consider having Junk-Out in their handpiece maintenance arsenal, because even lubricated handpieces can get buildup on the chuck, and let's be honest, when several of your handpieces are off someplace getting repaired, that affects your productivity and your bottom line. See the complete line of handpiece maintenance products in your DHPI catalog, or ask your account manager for some Junk-Out... Chuck will thank you.
